Here is the first two essential words for this lesson:

  • วัน ( wan ) – Day
  • สัปดาห์ ( sàb-daa ) – Week

In Thai, the names of the days are derived from the names of celestial bodies.

    • This combines “วัน” ( wan ) – Day with “อาทิตย์” ( aathíd ) – Sun.
  2. วันจันทร์ ( wan jan ) – Monday

    • This combines “วัน” ( wan ) – Day with “จันทร์” ( jan ) – Moon.
  3. วันอังคาร ( wan ang-kaan ) – Tuesday

    • This combines “วัน” ( wan ) – Day with “อังคาร” ( ang-kaan ) – Mars.
  4. วันพุธ (wan phút) – Wednesday

    • This combines “วัน” ( wan ) – Day with “พุธ” ( púd ) – Mercury.
  5. วันพฤหัสบดีwan pá-rʉ́-hàd-sà-bà-dii ) – Thursday

    • This combines “วัน” ( wan ) – Day with “พฤหัสบดี” ( pá-rʉ́-hàd-sà-bà-dii ) – Jupiter.
  6. วันศุกร์ (wan sùk) – Friday

    • This combines “วัน” ( wan ) – Day with “ศุกร์” ( sùg ) – Venus.
  7. วันเสาร์ (wan sǎo) – Saturday

    • This combines “วัน” ( wan ) – Day with “เสาร์” ( sǎo ) – Saturn.

Practicing these names will help you become more comfortable discussing days of the week in Thai. Use the English subtitles for better comprehension and the Thai subtitles to improve your reading skills.

Important Note:

In this video, the mark â is used for the Low Tone, while à is used for the Falling Tone. However, to keep it consistent with the widely accepted method (where à is used for the Low Tone, and â is used for the Falling Tone), we recommend learners switch the â and à tone marks when taking notes.

We apologize for any confusion and are working to correct this issue in the video as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
