Understanding Thai Colors

Welcome to Your Journey of Learning Colors in Thai!

In this lesson, we’ll delve into how colors are named and expressed in Thai, offering you a foundational understanding to boost your vocabulary and fluency.

The Basics of Color Naming: In Thai, the word for color is สี (siǐ). This word is used as a prefix and is placed before the actual color name. For example, to say “black,” you combine สี (siǐ) with ดำ (dam), resulting in สีดำ (siǐ dam).

Unique and Specialized Colors: When dealing with unique or specialized color names that may not have a direct translation, you can still use สี (siǐ) as a prefix. For example, the word for “starlight” can be สีสตาร์ไลท์ (siǐ starlight) or สี starlight, which directly incorporates the English term.

For those who want to practice Thai writing, exercises are provided below. These exercises will help you practice writing colors in Thai script. However, to fully engage with these exercises, a basic understanding of the Thai script may be needed.

We hope this lesson helps you get comfortable with naming and writing colors in Thai. Feel free to revisit and practice as much as needed.

Enjoy your Thai learning journey!
